We closely monitor the environmental impacts of our operations and report on them to the environmental authority. We are helping to monitor the environmental impacts of peat production areas in North Savo and North Karelia, as well as joint monitoring of Lake Kallavesi and air-quality monitoring in the City of Kuopio. Our environmental responsibility begins with the design of production methods, and extends to sharing energy expertise and financing environmental research.

We want to help achieve the objectives set by the EU’s climate policy and to have the lowest possible carbon footprint. More than half of the power and heat produced by Kuopion Energia is generated from renewable biofuels purchased locally. Biofuels and peat make an excellent combination, in which plant use can be optimised as needed and diverse use can be made of North Savo’s natural environment, without placing it under strain.
